Our History and Beliefs

Who We Are

Faith Memorial Church is a body of believers committed to Biblical integrity and spiritual growth.  Our goal is to fulfill the Commission of Jesus Christ to go into all the world and make disciples of all people.

Believing that Christian education produces a heart for Christian service, Faith offers learning and discipleship opportunities through Sunday school, small group studies and corporate worship settings for all ages.

Christian service locally includes our largest community outreach, Hug-A-Bear Daycare and Faith Academy Preschool, Prekindergarten and Kindergarten.  Other community connections consist of offering grief recovery support, volunteering in the Fairfield County Court system, serving in homeless shelters in Lancaster and Columbus, donating to food pantries and clothing closets  and opening our facility to community support groups.

Fulfilling the Commission of Christ is at the heart of Faith’s history being born from a Spirit-filled tent meeting in 1927. This body started with eight charter members and now has approximately 400 in attendance. We are a part of the Churches of Christ in Christian Union, Circleville, Ohio. The CCCU denomination has 218 churches in 14 of the continental United States and 29 churches in the Caribbean (Dominica, Trinidad, Barbados & Antigua).

Our desire is to be

Grounded in the Word
Growing in our Walk
Giving of our Wealth
Going to our World

 Jeremiah 17: 7-8

7 But blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence.
8 They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water.
Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought.
Their leaves stay green, and they never stop producing fruit.

We believe. . .

That the Bible, consisting of the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments, is the inspired, infallible Word of God and is therefore the final authority in all matters of faith and conduct.

In the one true God, eternally existing in three Persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

In Jesus Christ as truly God and truly man, in His virgin birth, in His death in our place and on our behalf, in His bodily resurrection and His promised return.

That through the rebellion of Adam the human race is fallen from original righteousness, born with a nature inclined to evil, separated from God by sinful deeds and in need of divine salvation.

That sin includes both a condition of inward spiritual corruption and any act of willful transgression of the known will of God.

That salvation consists of two distinct works of God within the soul.  The first is called justification, is conditioned upon repentance and faith, involves forgiveness of sins and the imparting of spiritual life and results in the believer ceasing the practice of sin and beginning a new life of following Christ. The second is called entire sanctification, is conditioned upon full surrender and faith, involves both the instantaneous cleansing of the Christian’s heart from the inherited inclination to sin and the infilling of the Holy Spirit and results in a new power to love God with our whole heart and our neighbors as ourselves.

That the believer is secure in Christ as long as obedience and faith is maintained. It is possible to walk away from grace and fall into sin and if one remains in this state, to be finally lost. However, by the grace of God and through repentance and faith, the backslider can be restored to righteousness and true holiness.

That genuine Christian living consists of “walking as He walked.” We believe that good works themselves do not save us, but are the necessary fruit of the new birth and therefore serve as evidence that we are converted just as a tree is discerned by its fruit.

That Christ instituted two sacraments: Baptism and the Lord’s Supper.

That there is a resurrection of the righteous and the unrighteous, a Day of Judgment in which all will give account for the deeds done in the body, and an endless state of rewards in which the righteous dwell forever in heaven and endless torment in hell for the unrighteous.
